My research interests are centred on the manipulation of cells to alter their function for the treatment of diseases. My PhD investigated the direct reprogramming of human fetal fibroblast cells for the treatment of heart disease. I am also interested in the identification of molecular biomarkers to enable the detection and discrimination of cell types within heterogeneous tissues. Following my PhD I interrogated the molecular biomarkers of heterogeneous cell populations within the human fetal heart with the aim of better understanding the way in which we identify human foetal cardiac cells and cardiac cells derived from pluripotent stem cell types, in vitro.
