Career History

2016 – present: Teaching Assistant. Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, University of Sheffield. 2014 – 2016: Daphne Jackson Fellow. Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, University of Sheffield. 2004 – 2008: Post-doctoral research scientist. Nuclear Transport Laboratory and Mammalian Genetics Laboratory, CRUK London Research Institute. 2000 – 2004: Post-doctoral research scientist. Bloomberg School of Public Health, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA. 1996 – 1999: PhD student. Paterson Institute for Cancer Research, Manchester. 1993 – 1996: BA in Natural Sciences, University of Cambridge. About

I completed my PhD at the Paterson Institute for Cancer Research in Manchester where my interests centred on nucleocytoplasmic transport and the Nuclear Pore Complex (NPC). Following this I moved to Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, USA, where I expanded these interests by defining the protein composition of NPCs for the first time. Upon moving back to the UK to work at CRUK's London Research Institute, I studied the RNA-binding properties of proteins involved in epigenetic control of gene expression and the regulation of DNA damage signalling. Following a career break, I secured a Daphne Jackson Career Re-entry Fellowship, during which I investigated a novel pathway of mRNA export that bypasses the NPC.
