个人简介

Ph.D., Department of Biochemistry, 1999, University of Saskatchewan B.Sc. Honours, Department of Biochemistry, 1994, University of Saskatchewan Dr. Scott Napper holds a joint position at the University of Saskatchewan as a Professor of Biochemistry as well as Senior Scientist at the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Organization- International Vaccine Center (VIDO-InterVac). A protein biochemist by training, his research interests are based in the application of structure-function investigations within the context of infection and immunity. This includes research into the development of vaccines for diseases based in protein misfolding where, by inducing immune responses that are specific to the misfolded species, Dr. Napper hopes to address key obstacles to vaccine development for proteinopathies such as prion diseases and ALS. Dr. Napper is also responsible for the development of peptide arrays that enable high-throughput analysis of intracellular signal transduction activity. This approach has yielded insight and therapeutic targets to a number of important diseases, including a number of infectious diseases of humans and animals as well as cancer. Outside of the lab Scott has a strong interest in Science Education and works actively with the Secondary Education System to help translate higher level science and mentorship to undergraduate and high school students. Scott is a three-time recipient of the University of Saskatchewan Teaching Excellence Award.
