A major focus of the current research in my laboratory is to understand the inflammatory changes in the injured central nervous system at a cellular and molecular level. We are particularly interested in the role of the mononuclear phagocyte system in developing neuropathology and the functional outcome from neurotraumatic events. The ultimate goal of our research is to determine which aspects of the neuroinflammatory process exacerbate neuronal injury so that novel interventions can be designed to minimise the deleterious effects of secondary injury.
