Her research interest lies in understanding how the generation of different neuron subtypes are controlled genetically both by factors acting intrinsically within developing progenitors and extrinsically by factors arising from the surrounding developing organ tissue. Focusing on the retinal neurons of the visual system, the lab studies neural development and regeneration in the zebrafish model making use of its accessibility, fast development, ease of molecular manipulations and in vivo time-lapse imaging capabilities.

Feedback from each retinal neuron population drives expression of subsequent fate determinant genes without influencing the cell cycle exit timing.
