Professor John Mitchell is an internationally recognised expert in pre-formulation and formulation science. He has published over 170 refereed papers in aspects of drug delivery, synthesis and analysis of novel drug carrying polymers, drug transport, drug formulation and the chemical stability of drug substances using spectroscopy and calorimetry as major tools.

Professor Mitchell has excellent industry links having had over 25 collaborative post-doctoral fellows with Pfizer UK and PhD students supported by GSK, Colorcon and Pfizer.
