Aerosols & Clouds Physical Renewable Energy Physical Organic Physical Organic Chemistry

Since 1999 Ellison has become interested in the chemistry and spectroscopy of organic aerosols. To understand the fundamental steps in the "atmospheric processing" of organic aerosols, he studies the oxidation of organic radicals and hydrocarbon films in a high-vacuum surface chamber. Non-linear laser spectroscopy (SHG and SFG) is being used to monitor the dynamics of surface-bound organic. The mechanism of oxidation of organic aerosols is studied in a flow tube reactor and an aerosol mass spectrometer.
