Andrew graduated with a degree in Chemistry from the University of Oxford where he remained for his D.Phil. He then held postdoctoral positions at Curtin University, Western Australia and the University of Liverpool. He was awarded a Royal Society University Research Fellowship in 2004 which he held for 10 years. He moved to the University of Chester as a senior lecturer in 2016.
