Synthesis

The use of organic synthesis to make new biologically active small molecules that can be used to understand and exploit biological systems. Current topics of interest include: (i) the use of diversity-oriented synthesis to discover new antibacterial agents; (ii) the disruption of bacterial intercellular signalling (quorum sensing) as a novel strategy to treat bacterial infections; (iii) the design and synthesis of new small molecule modulators of protein-protein interactions and their use as anti-cancer agents; (iv) the development of new synthetic strategies to access unusual heterocyclic scaffolds.
