He is currently Chair of the Organising Committee for the 6th International Conference on Engineering Education for Sustainable Development to be held in Cambridge in September 2013. He is also a Fellow of Wolfson College.

Water and sanitation in developing countries, with specific reference to pit latrine management in Africa.
