The Rinehart Group applies the synthetic and physical techniques of colloidal nanochemistry to study single-domain properties of high-coercivity magnetic materials. Magnetic materials are essential to many green energy technologies from hybrid car motors to wind turbine generators. They also play vital roles in consumer, transportation, military, and computing technologies. By isolating and studying single magnetic domains, the interplay of intrinsic and extrinsic properties can be systematically understood, leading to a new generation of application-tailored magnetic materials.
