As Director of Teaching and Director of Studies for Biology, Biochemistry and Molecular & Cellular Biology programmes I have responsibility for the smooth running of undergraduate programmes within the Department of Biology & Biochemistry and for overseeing admission of all undergraduates. I am a member of all the Department’s teaching related committees and am a member of the Departmental Executive. Outside the Department I am a longstanding member of the Faculty Learning, Teaching and Quality Committee (since 2001) and I am an elected member of Senate (2012 to 2016). Prior to joining the University of Bath, in 2001, I was Director of Studies for undergraduate programmes in the Department of Biological Sciences at Brunel University. Before that I had a varied research career starting with photosynthetic bacteria and green algae, then moving on to the human genome mapping project and cancer gene identification.
