Dr. Xiaoguang Duan is an Associate Professor (Reader) and ARC Future Fellow (2024–2028). He serves as the Deputy Head of Research and Discipline Lead (Chemical Engineering) in the School of Chemical Engineering. Dr. Duan’s research spans environmental science, green catalysis, functional materials, chemical engineering, advanced water purification technologies, solar fuels, and computational science. He has published more than 300 peer-reviewed research papers, including 78 ESI Highly Cited Papers (top 1%), in leading journals such as Nature Water, Chemical Reviews, Chemical Society Reviews, Accounts of Chemical Research, Advanced Materials, Angewandte Chemie International Edition, PNAS, Matter, Nature Communications, ACS Catalysis, Environmental Science & Technology, and Water Research. His publications have accrued over 40,000 citations with an h-index of 106 (Web of Science), and over 44,000 citations with an h-index of 111 (Google Scholar). Dr Duan has been dedicated to seeking innovative chemical and environmental engineering, precise design and scalable synthesis of nanomaterials and functional materials, and advanced applications in environmental remediation, chemical production, energy catalysis, solar fuels and medical applications. He has significantly contributed to facilitating mechanistic insights into materials sciences, reactor/catalytic engineering and green catalysis with advanced protocols of in situ characterisation/analytical and computations. His research areas include: Heterogeneous and green catalysis Reactor design and system optimisation Water purification and advanced oxidation technologies Functional (nano)materials and nanotechnology Microplastic and solid wastes (biomass, tyre) removal, conversion and catalytic upgrading Solar fuels production and sustainable electro/photo catalysis Multiscale theoretical calculations Green and safe disinfection and sterilization technologies Slow-release technology and Fenton-based tumor therapy
