While working as a Chemist in an industrial QC lab and teaching organic chemistry as a Senior Lecturer in Romania (where I graduated and took my PhD in Chemistry) I continued my research training in Germany (Organic Chemistry Institute, Heidelberg) and Uk (University of Portsmouth), I returned in 2000 as a Leverhulme Trust Fellow and then in 2001 joined the permanent staff as a Senior Research Fellow. My background is in organic chemistry and chemical engineering - I am skilled in synthetic and analytical chemistry as well as spectroscopy and materials characterisation, and I have substantial experience in managing a variety of research projects. My main research interests are in the area of biomaterials and drug delivery systems.

Biomaterials – syntheses, chemical modifications and characterisation of synthetic and natural polymeric materials aimed at biomedical applications.

Drug delivery – design and development of controlled drug delivery systems based on hydrogels and micro/nanoparticulate constructs.

Pharmaceutical/medicinal chemistry – synthesis and applications of specific crosslinkers and novel tumour-selective BNCT agents.
