She earned a bachelor and a master degree in Biomedical Engineering studying at Politecnico di Milano. As part of the specialism in Biomechanics and Biomaterials, her thesis was a numerical implementation of a mass-spring approach for surgical planning of mitral valve repair. In 2016, Serena completed her PhD in Biomechanical engineering at University of Portsmouth. The subject of her research was the investigation of aneurysm formation by means of tissue experimental testing and finite element models.
