个人简介

Jorge Llano is an Assistant Professor of chemistry at MacEwan University. He teaches courses on general and physical chemistry. His research is focused on developing and applying theoretical and computational methods and models to unravel the mechanisms of action of biologically active species, as for instance, in the mutagenic radiation damage of DNA and in enzyme catalysis. He received a B.Sc. in chemistry with the highest honors from the University of Havana, where he taught physical chemistry as a university instructor after graduation. Then, he became a Swedish Institute scholar, first, at Stockholm University, and after, at Uppsala University. There, he developed a quantum statistical model to resolve the sequence of proton, electron and proton-coupled electron transfer steps involved in the radiation damage of DNA nucleobases in solution. After receiving his PhD in biophysical chemistry from Uppsala University, he went to the University of Calgary as an Alberta Ingenuity postdoctoral fellow to perform molecular dynamics simulations of folding of the beta peptide responsible for Alzheimer's disease. He continued his postdoctoral research in computational modelling of enzyme catalysis at the University of Windsor, Ontario, where he also taught general chemistry.

研究领域
