Dr. Shivakumar is a hematologist, assistant professor of medicine and director of postgraduate education in the Division of Hematology. His clinical interests are deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. He has additional subspecialty training in thrombosis, which he earned at the University of Ottawa after completing his residency training in hematology at Dalhousie.

Dr. Shivakumar has several projects underway that study the effectiveness of new drugs to prevent or treat thrombosis.
