My research interests focus on animal nutrition and gut microbiology. Currently I am investigating: * methods to decrease methane and nitrogen excretion from ruminants * the role of gut protozoa in digestion in both ruminants and equines * the structure of the bacterial population in the hindgut of horses * the effect of probiotics on structure of the microbial populations in the gut * the use of plant materials and probiotics to control pathogenic organisms both in animal feed and within the animal's gut
