实验室主要以小鼠、非洲爪蛙和文昌鱼为动物模型研究神经系统的早期发育机制及其演化。研究成果包括发现泛素连接酶RNF220通过调节Hedgehog、Wnt通路活性参与神经发育调控；鉴定了多个参与神经嵴发育与神经管腹侧图式形成的新基因等。已在Nature，MolCellBiol,JBiolChem等杂志发表论文30余篇，相关论文被引用1000余次。
