Dr Andrew Ma received his PhD in English language and linguistics from The University of Sheffield and is currently Assistant Professor of English and Translation at Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University United International College (UIC). Before joining UIC, he taught at the Southern University of Science and Technology and The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen). His primary research interests lie in the history and rhetoric of linguistic thought, on which he has published a number of papers. He served as a guest editor of a special issue of Language & History (SSCI) under the theme ‘politics and the history of linguistic thought’. He is now working on a research project entitled 'rhetoric of linguistics' in collaboration with contributors from the UK, US, Canada, Europe, and Hong Kong.
