教育经历 1981 年 - 1985 年，就读于山西大学生物系动物学专业，获学士学位。 1994 年 - 1997 年，在北京师范大学生命科学院攻读并获得博士学位。 工作经历 1985 年 - 1994 年，在山西省生物研究所工作，先后担任研究实习员、助理研究员。 1997 年 - 至今，在武汉大学生命科学学院工作，先后担任讲师、副教授、教授，同时还担任生态学系主任一职。

我感兴趣于动物社会行为的进化，关注性选择、精子竞争、性冲突、亲属选择等一些基本问题。作为一个自然历史学者，我特别看中野外研究的价值。我的野外研究基地主要在青藏高原，一片地域辽阔、自然景观独特的神奇大地。各种高原动物特别是鸟类基本自然历史知识的积累，焦点物种长期、大尺度的野外生活史和社会行为数据的积累，是我和我的团队努力的目标。
